TestingTM
- Have you hit a plateau in your exercise program?
- Do you want to know how long and hard you should be exercising?
- Do you want to know how many calories your body needs to lose weight?
- Do you want to know your Training Heart Rate Zones?
Then New Leaf Metabolic TestingTM
is just FOR YOU!
Determining Your Unique Response to Exercise
The New Leaf Metabolic Assessment analyzes the volume of oxygen you consume (VO2) and carbon dioxide
you produce to determine the type of fuels your body uses.
Whether your goal is performance or weight loss, knowing your individual response to exercise gives you the
tools you need to get the results you want.
TRAIN SMARTER, NOT HARDER
You've heard that a million times, but what does it really mean?
With this test we can tell you how hard you should workout to improve you body's ability to burn fat and
calories. You will lose inches because your cardio workouts will be using primarily fat for energy, not
sugar. When you go to workout you will have a specific plan for your cardio workouts. We eliminate the
guesswork!
What is Metabolism?
Metabolism is the process of converting food to fuel for the body. Metabolic rate is the number of calories used
to fuel the body. Therefore, your resting metabolism is the amount of energy your body uses at rest. Seventy
percent of the total calories a person burns each day are composed of the calories needed for essential life
functioning. Resting metabolism provides the energy the body needs for pumping blood through the body, inhaling and
exhaling air, maintaining body temperature, sending and receiving nerve impulses, thinking, and making important
chemicals in the cells. The remaining thirty percent of calories burned come from physical activity, such as
activities of daily living and exercise. To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. Therefore,
to lose weight it is important to know exactly how many calories your body needs each day and how many calories you
burn during daily activities and exercise.
Get the Edge
Metabolic Testing
With the New Leaf Personal Training Program a Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment and an Exercise
Metabolic Test (EMT) are performed to develop a personalized program for your specific needs.
The Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment is performed while resting comfortably in a chair and usually
takes 15 to 30 minutes. The RMR assessment measures the amount of calories used at rest. The RMR is then adjusted
by an activity to produce the number of calories burned in a typical day.
**The bottom line: It tells you how many calories you can consume without gaining weight!
The Exercise Metabolic Test (EMT) lasts approximately 10-12 minutes and is performed on a treadmill,
stationary bike, or an elliptical. Data such as heart rate, maximal oxygen consumed (VO2 Max), and Anaerobic
Threshold (AT) are measured and used to develop a custom training program. Target heart rates zones are
scientifically determined by your metabolic profile and may be incorporated into a fitness or weight loss training
program.
Following these assessments, an exercise physiologist will provide you with individualized reports that
include:
- Daily caloric requirements, which helps you increase or decrease the calories you consume to meet your
goals.
- Your ratio of fat and carbohydrate utilization
- Your cardiovascular fitness level and how you compare with others of your age and gender
- Accurate training heart rate zones to ensure that you are exercising at the correct intensity to lose body
fat, gain optimal performance, and prevent injuries
- Your custom 12 week cardiovascular workout program which enables you to work hand-in-hand with a fitness
specialist on a safe and effective training program based on your actual metabolic profile
- Follow-up assessments are used to track improvements and encourage motivation and adherence to the
program
Our New Leaf programs start as low as $39 for the resting metabolic
test!
