Greg Simmons earned his Master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Applied
Sport Science from Indiana University in 2000. While pursuing his studies, he was a graduate assistant strength
& conditioning coach in the IU Varsity Weight Room. Simmons Performance Training was formed in 1999 and since
has worked with a diverse group of athletes from all major sports, motorsports, cycling, triathletes, cheer/stunt,
lacrosse, rugby, ice hockey, riflery, and roller derby. Greg has consulted some of the top strength/sport coaches
across the country. He has developed programs utilized by athletes at all levels from junior high school to
professional.
Mr. Simmons is an Adjunct Lecturer at Indiana University, teaching courses in Theories of Resistance Training,
Athletic Conditioning, and Personal Fitness. He also teaches Fitness & Wellness at Ivy Tech Community College
in Bloomington. He holds several certifications from a variety of professional organizations.
Greg recently developed a fitness program (DVD) for Indiana Volunteer firefighters as part of an IU study funded
by the Department of Homeland Security. The dvd was distributed to every volunteer department in the state.
He is active with USA Powerlifting (USAPL) as both a competitor and International team coach. Greg has coached
and competed internationally in Japan, Russia, South Africa, France, Poland, Bulgaria, and Italy. Simmons was the
Head Coach of the USAPL Junior National team from 2006-2007. He led the men's team to a gold medal/women's silver
finishes in 2006. Greg won the World Master’s Championship in the 148 lb class in 2005 in Pretoria, South Africa.
Currently, Greg returned to powerlifting in 2010 and the Master National Championship. He placed 5th at the
Master's Worlds (bronze medal in Bench press) in Pilsen Czech Republic. He and his wife Susan have one daughter,
McKenna(5).

Co-Director/Exercise Physiologist

Dr. Susan Simmons received her Ph.D. in Human Performance from Indiana University
(IU) with a major in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Bioanthropology.
Her research interests include: maturational pace and sport performancein
adolescent athletes, strength and power characteristics and their relationship to athletic performance, and
cardiorespiratory physiology. She has been teaching and working at the university level since 1995.
She has taught at Indiana University, Northern Illinois University, and Ivy Tech
Community College. Courses taught include: Exercise Physiology, Structural Kinesiology, Bioenergetics, Anatomy, and
Physiology. For the past three years, Dr. Simmons has served IU's Department of Kinesiology as the Coordinator of
Career Placement.
She also coordinates the department's Personal Fitness course, the most popular
physical activity course on campus. In addition, Dr. Simmons continues to teach Anatomy and Physiology for the
local community college system.
Dr. Simmons is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the
National Strength and Conditioning Association. Susan was a competitive gymnast as an undergraduate at Western
Michigan University, earning Academic All American honors. She has also competed at the national level in
powerlifting.
